The Details: This regional Farm Tour put together by the talented folks at ASAP (Appalachain Sustainable Agriculture Project) is featuring a Polk County Cluster this year. Tickets priced by the carload. Several Clusters around WNC give you a full weekend of farm explorations (that's 21 farms of all different kinds). One pass is good for all passengers in a single vehicle at all farms, both
days (Sept. 21-22, 12-5 p.m.).
LGC ON-FARM SPECIAL EVENTS THAT DAY
Both days we will be doing special tours and events on the farm. These tours & events are free but will only be available to ASAP tour goers with a pass. Tour times and info below:
Saturday September 21st & Sunday September 22nd
12:30 - Mozzarella Stretching with Drew Miles (up to 30 mins)
- Drew milks cows, makes cheese and represents at the Hub City Farmers Market in Spartanburg every Saturday. He also stretches Mozzarella and will be doing just that while answering your questions about cheesemaking and his experience on the farm. Come check it out and get inspired to stretch your own mozzarella at home. LOCATION: Creamery Porch
2pm - Walk About with Owner Andy Perkins (approx 45 mins)
- Go for a walk of the farm with farmer & owner Andy Perkins. This tour leaves from the Farm Store. This is a hike covering several miles so dress accordingly. He will take you through the woods, across the fields, down to the dairy parlor and back around to the creamery area. He will tell you all about the cows, how we farm, the milking process, cheesemaking and be there to answer any questions you have. LOCATION: leaves from Farm Store but all over the farm.
4pm - Deconstructing the Cheese Board (approx 30-45 mins)
- Join Farm Store manager and chef, Rikki Giambruno for a lesson in flavor pairings. Explore the diverse ways cheese can be accented and elevated. Get professional tips on what to look for when finding a perfect pair. Learn how to play with different notes of acidity, savoriness, sweetness and spiciness to build your ideal cheese board. Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest
The best cheese festival in the South is back for another year at Oak & Grist Distilling. This event is put on by the WNC Cheese trail and welcomes lots of Cheesemakers from WNC and throughout the South along with other craft food makers. Enjoy Cocktails from Oak & Grist while you look, taste, sample and learn all about cheese!
